The Seto porcelain incense tray embodies 850 years of history and craftsmanship, originating from the Imada district in Sasayama City, Hyogo, Japan. Known as Tamba Tachikui pottery, this art form uses clay from Sanda and Sasayamaguchi, refined by two generations of artisans. Fired in a Tamba kiln—one of Japan's six ancient kilns—at 1300°C for 60 hours with pine wood, the resulting ash creates a unique glaze and texture. This traditional method has been perfected since the Heian period (794–1185), making each piece a testament to enduring Japanese artistry.
