Miniature Goshiki Kendama - Yosegi Cherry

Product Specs:
W20 × D15 × H45mm

Goshiki, meaning “five colors,” is a miniature Japanese kendama crafted from five naturally contrasting woods. Tiny 2mm blocks of Toona, Zelkova, Magnolia, Cherry, and Dogwood are carefully joined to create the colorful Yosegi ball, with no added color needed.

This intricate piece brings together the skills of two Odawara woodworkers. Junno Kobayashi creates the precise Yosegi composition, while master miniature woodturner Hisao Saito shapes the kendama to just a quarter of the standard size using a specialized curved handplane called kuseganna. Together, their distinct techniques transform a familiar Japanese toy into a remarkable miniature work of craftsmanship.
