Cast Iron / Walnut Wood

Designed by Japanese design superstar Makoto Koizumi, this tea kettle is not just meant to be a piece of art, but made for everyday use within the home. Both direct flame and induction heat safe, this cast iron tea kettle is a conversation between the modern and the classic. In spite of its sloping, space-age curves and attention to detail down to the concentric circles of its wood and metal top, there is something primal that hearkens to the iron age in the heaviness and dependability of this gorgeous tea kettle.

Born in Tokyo, Makoto Koizumi quickly shot to prominence in the Japanese design world with the establishment of Koizumi Studio in 1990. From homeware to buildings, Koizumi has designed it all. His recent project, Waza, works on refurbishing heritage handicrafts. Koizumi is Professor Emeritus at Musashino Art University. He has won Grand Prizes at both the Mainichi Design Awards and Japan Craft Exhibition. With attention to detail and an eye for materials, to own a piece by Koizumi is to own a piece of design history.

This kettle is hand washed only and risks cracking if exposed to quick temperature changes from hot to cold, let cool on the stove before rinsing.
