Celadon Mini Cup with Saucer

Product Specs:
Cup: ø1.5"x H2" / 1oz
Saucer: ø3"

This Chinese tea cup with curving, urn-like sides and a small saucer is created with a Celadon finish. Celadon, a technique created in China but named as such by the British, refers to any pottery with a green, jade-like finish. It is created by using iron oxide in the glaze which burns off, leaving the green color behind. This style of greenware was first popularized during the Shang Dynasty (around 1100 BCE). Combining ancient history with modern history, the shape of the cup and its play with the saucer almost call images of mid-century designs to mind. This cup is for use in Chinese tea practice in which it is custom to drink multiple, smaller cups of tea as opposed to fewer, large cups of tea.
